Not Normal that Shit : best of NTNS radio
Broadcasted every saturday morning 9 AM local time (GMT+1)
With these compilation releases, NNTS tries to capture the spirit and essence of NTNS radio. Each compilation covers a period of time in which the artists
released a new (free) album which was highlighted on one of the radioshows in that same period. You could say that the NNTS series makes for a document of new albums,
but most of all these NNTS series offer you a moment of listening pleasure. Dare dip your toes into something different; for that these releases are surely which at the same
time expresses what you can expect to hear on the weekly NTNS radio shows.
History of NTNS radio:
Not the Normal Shit radio has been back on air since february 17th 2007.
Back on air you say? Well yes... Inbetween 2004 and early 2006 NTNS has been around before, back then hosted by John Ingram of Intelligentmachinery.net. I myself used to listen to each show on early saturday mornings and was heavily inspired by all the music played. But like all good things the show ended in march 2006 due to connectivity and other problems leaving behind (for me at least) a void that never really got filled.
So early 2007 I gathered all my courage and set out to bring NTNS back on air.
Even though I had done radioshows in the past, the mic was a fearsome thing and in the early shows I used to drown my voice in delays and reverbs so as to feel comfertable enough to speak.
In its first year NTNS radio was a 5 hour bi-weekly show, but in february 2008 that changed to a three hour weekly show which and is re-broadcasted through Stillstream
NTNS radio focusses on experimental electronic music, music that dares to step away from known formats or 'pop' formulae. Rarely you will hear rhythms or melodies, but that doesn't mean they're not there. Be it improvisational accoustics, turntabalism, live electronics, free jazz, plunderphonics, lo-fi, dark ambient, noise or minimal experiments in any way, NTNS will play it. I do not believe in genres, if the ear likes it it's good for NTNS.
Not the Normal Shit radio is presented by Mark (or known as the experimental artist mystahr) and is broadcasted from his mad scientist studio, located in the Netherlands.
So why not tune in at Stillstream.com and catch a fresh show; or even join in on some NTNS chat.
